Astragalus humistratus var. humistratus is a prostrate, spreading plant with rather unusual yellowish green flowers that may have white, pink or purple highlights. The flowers are born in a dense capitate cluster. The pods are slightly curved, pubescent and have a persistent style. The pinnately compound leaves have more than seven leaflets and are glabrous on top in var. humistratus, but are pubescent on top in other varieties. The hairs of the herbage are dolabriform, meaning that they are attached to the stem and leaves somewhere besides at the ends of the hairs. Astragalus humistratus var. humistratus is found in flat, sandy areas at middle elevation.
