Brachythecium rivulare Bruch & Schimper

Family: Brachytheciaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
Brachythecium rivulare Schimp. var. cataractarum Saut.
Brachythecium rivulare Schimp. var. lamoillense Grout
Brachythecium rivulare Schimp. var. laxum Grout
Brachythecium rivulare Schimp. var. noveboracense (Grout) H. Rob.

Brachythecium rivulare is unlike many other of the genus by virtue of the weak or absent plica at the edges of the base. An obvious character of this moss is the sudden transition from elongate laminar cells to large, oblong alar (basal) cells. The costa extends about 2/3 of the way to the apex. Brachythecium rivulare is an upper elevation forest dweller on wet rocks or submerged in streams.
