Cheilanthes wootonii Maxon
(Wooton's Lip Fern)

Family: Pteridaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
None

Cheilanthes wootonii is lime green and glabrous on the adaxial (top) surface. In the respect, it closely resembles Cheilanthes fendleri with which it shares its range in our area. However, while Cheilanthes fendleri prefers north facing slopes, Cheilanthes wootonii is more commonly found facing east. Cheilanthes wootonii has ciliate costal scales, unlike Cheilanthes fendleri. The loosely appressed stem scales are brown and without a central stripe.
