Crossidium crassinervium var. crassinervium is a small moss occurring mostly as scattered stems in sandy arid areas. The awns are frequently as long as the lamina. There are filaments on the adaxial surface of the distal costa. These filaments are longer, more slender and thin walled than those of C. aberrans. In addition, the terminal cells of the filaments of C. crassinervium var. crassinervium are conical to cylindrical and not sub-globose and thicker walled as in C. aberrans.
