Didymodon vinealis (Bridel) Zander
Family: Pottiaceae
Status: Native
Synonyms:
Barbula vinealis Bridel
Didymodon vinealis is an acrocarpous moss with triangular leaves that are acute at the apex. The plants are usually green with
a reddish cast. The margins can be recurved to above midleaf. The apex commonly ends in a conical cell. The laminal cells can be smooth or strongly papillose. When present, the papillae are commonly bifid (divided into two parts). Distally, the costa is frequently sunken into a channel the width of the costa. The adaxial surface of the costa is covered with quadrate cells at mid leaf, unlike the costa of D. tophaceus which is covered by elongate cells at mid leaf. Didymodon vinealis is found in cracks in rocks in the splash zone of creeks at middle elevation.
