Syntrichia norvegica Weber & Mohr

Family: Pottiaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
Tortula norvegica (F. Weber) Wahlenb. ex Lindb. Steere

Syntrichia norvegica has a long awn that is mostly red, unlike Syntrichia ruralis. The distal cells on S. ruralis are 8-12 microns in largest dimension, compared to 13-18 microns for the distal cells of S. norvegica. They both are pluripapillose and have hyaline windows at the base without a constriction at mid leaf. S. norvegica is found on soil at high elevation.
