Physcomitrium/Enthostodon?

Family: Funariaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
Awaits definitive identification

This moss is found in small clumps in the mud flats along the Gila River, but no sporophytes have been seen as yet. Unfortunately, a definite identification will have to wait until the sporophytes are found. Most likely candidates are Physcomitrium hookeri, P. pyriforme, or an Enthostodon. The globose terminal paraphyseal cells and the large, clear laminal cells identify it as part of the Funariaceae.
