WNMU Becomes Microsoft Training Academy Partner

Silver City, NM – Six months after making a commitment to redevelop the Computer Technology Program, Western New Mexico University has become a Microsoft Training Academy Partner. Students and community members can sign up for three-week long IT classes worth 3-college credits each and a Microsoft certification, issued on-site at the end of the class. “This is now a very powerful program,” Adjunct Professor of Computer Technology Doug Miranda explained.  “Six months ago, the College of Community and Workforce Development decided to completely rebuild the Computer Technology Program, with the goal of offering up-to-date, in-demand IT classes based upon current industry standards.  By partnering with Microsoft, the College of Community and Workforce Development has been able to do that very quickly.” Students looking to earn an AAS (Associates of Applied Science) Degree in Computer Technology will walk away from the two-year course of study with an additional 11 MTA...

WNMU Partners With Town Of Silver City To Increase Campus Recycling

Silver City NM -- Western New Mexico University recently furthered its commitment to recycling on campus by partnering with the Town of Silver City Single-Stream Recycling Plan, resulting in a doubling of volume in recyclable materials collected.  The effort comes in addition to an existing partnership between the university’s Physical Plant Department and the WNMU Eco-Sustainability student club, which has seen recycling efforts increase since it was formed in 2012. “There were many times the Eco-Sustainability Club could have given up and stopped pushing recycling altogether,” explained Eco-Sustainability Club President Erica Michelle Rasmussen.   “It took a group of passionate people that said "This needs to change" and with the collaborative effort of the community, several departments on campus and our activists, it did.” Recycling efforts were given a boost when Eco-Sustainability member April Lee applied for and received the Coca-Cola ‘Keep America...

Renovation of Historic Light Hall Auditorium Begins

Silver City, NM – March marked the beginning of the second phase of renovation to the auditorium in Light Hall, one of five historically registered buildings at the Silver City campus.  When completed, the auditorium will serve as a movie theater as well as an area for small productions, intimate concerts, and as a lecture hall.  The first renovation phase, completed two years ago, installed public bathrooms at the front of the auditorium.  The third phase renovates the remaining classrooms and offices. Brancheau PE Complex Set To Receive Modern Remodel, Including Redesigned Swimming Pool

  Silver City, NM – Western New Mexico University will soon begin a complete overhaul of the recreational facilities located around Old James Stadium, including the repair and redesign of the university swimming pool.  At the most recent Board of Regents meeting, a resolution was passed to seek $4 million in outside funding with a student fee being used to pay back the debt.
