Four Western New Mexico University students will be inducted into the Student Hall of Fame with a ceremony on Wednesday, May 6 at 3:00 p.m. in the Global Resource Center.
Each year WNMU honors exemplary students who excel in several areas including leadership, academic achievement, community involvement and participation in campus life.
The 2015 class of inductees are Gregory Elliott II, Zayde Khalil, Alvaro Nunez and Jordan Summers.
Gregory Elliott II arrived to WNMU in 2013 as a transfer student. He was a member of the Mustang football team for two years. Elliott has excelled academically and has served as a mentor to other students in his role as a math tutor. He founded the GEK Mathematics and Computer Honor Society and served as the society’s President. Elliott is graduating as a double major in May with a bachelor degrees in Applied Mathematics and Chemistry. He is originally from San Marcos, California.
Zayde Khalil is graduating with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and minor in pre-law. He is originally from Murriena, California. During his four years at WNMU, Khalil has been a member of the Mustang football team. He was recognized on the Academic All-Conference team three times and served as team captain for two years. During his time at WNMU, Khalil completed an internship with local law firm Lopez, Dietzel and Perkins. Khalil was a member of the Associated Students serving as Attorney General. He lobbied for funds with the student lobbying team at the New Mexico Legislature. Khalil also founded a Great Race team.
Alvaro Nunez is from Madrid, Spain. He is graduating in May as a double major with bachelor degrees in Business Management and Marketing and a minor in Economics. For four years, Nunez has been a member of the Mustang tennis team experiencing four seasons of championship runs in conference. Nunez recently earned the RMAC Summit Award for having the highest G.P.A. in tennis for his conference. His other leadership experiences include being a member of the Associated Students, and serving as President of both the Marketing Club and Delta Mu Delta.
Jordan Summers is from Wickenburg, Arizona. She will be graduating in December with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Her leadership experience includes serving as a resident assistant with campus housing for her entire tenure at WNMU. Last summer, Summers designed and taught two classes for area youth. One class was improvisational acting and the other was creative writing. She is a board member of the Learning Center for Dyslexia and Academic Success where she facilitates the group’s social media efforts and helps address issues related to learning disabilities. She has served as a volunteer for the Rainbow Village, a community organization that advocates for LGBTQ rights.
