The annual Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) event is set to take place on Friday, March 20 and will celebrate the lives and writings of women, past and present.

The public is invited to the Miller Library beginning at 2:00 p.m. to listen to at least 11 short readings by Western New Mexico University faculty and staff members celebrating well-known historic women such as author Mary Shelley and feminist Judith Sargent Murray.

Dr. Cynthia Bettison, WNMU Museum Director, will highlight local female leaders with a look into the lives of prehistoric Mimbres women and Miller Library librarian Andrea Jaquez will give a presentation on the women of Fort Bayard.

Early Latin American leaders will be discussed including Sor (Sister) Juana Ines de la Cruz, a seventeenth-century Mexican poet and nun. She is considered to mark the beginning of the history of Mexican literature in the Spanish language.
