Campus Ministry at WNMU

Located at Bernard Hall on the campus

Housed within the Campus Ministry building is the United Campus Ministry (supported by the Episcopal, Methodist, Presbyterian, Lutheran, and United Church of Christ Churches).

UCM is a nonprofit outreach ministry designed to nourish the development and support of Christian faith and practice at Western New Mexico University, to include faculty and staff.

Campus Ministry seeks to engage in a bridge building ministry of service in every aspect of university life through prayer, liturgy, community service, outreach, pastoral care and counseling, and most importantly through a ministry of visitation.

Basically we know that being a student is an exciting time of growth, exploration, and learning. But there are also times of frustration, hardship, struggle, and sometimes loneliness. We exist to support students as they learn and grow, (as well as faculty and staff). Come visit, we provide a quiet and reflective place where you can relax and have a free cup of coffee. We are open every day from 8:00 a.m., to 4:30 p.m.

Currently, the following programs are in operation at the campus ministry building:

Sunday: "No Cost" Sunday Supper program beginning at 5:30 p.m., and continuing to 9 p.m. or longer, (local supporting churches provide meals).

Tuesday: Staff and Faculty "Prayer and Reflection" group 12:15 p.m. (Bring a lunch, all faiths welcome).

Tuesday: 7 p.m. Spiritual formation discussion group.

Wednesday: "Express Yourself" Coffeehouse (games, movies, music, open mike poetry, snacks, and coffee) beginning at eight p.m., and continuing to midnight.

Additionally, there are ongoing events like retreats, bike and hike outings, and service programs.

A holiday food basket drive to provide baskets of food for needy students (we are working on developing a food pantry for those in hard times).

During finals week we provide food, games, movies, and keep the UCM building open late in the evening (past midnight).

Weekly meditation sessions, Bible study and discussion groups.

Finally, confidential pastoral care and counseling, (and coffee) is provided with no cost as needed.
