Bryum miniatum Lesquereux

Family: Bryaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
None

Bryum miniatum has hexagonal cells typical of Bryum close to the costa, but toward the margin of the leaf the cells elongate without forming a distinct border. The leaf shape is oblong to lanceolate with a markedly obtuse to truncate apex on stem leaves. The terminal leaves can be somewhat more bluntly acute. Sporophytes are uncommon. The costa is frequently reddish and ends just before the apex. Bryum miniatum is found on rocks in seasonal streams at middle elevation. Bryum muehlenbeckii, a similar species, has reflexed margins at least at the base and thinner walled cells at the apex.
