Dalea brachystachya is an aromatic, ascending herb that is much branched from the base. The stems and leaves are glabrous. The leaves are pinnately compound with about 5-11 leaflets. The leaflets glaucous and gland dotted underneath. The floral bracts are persistant and conspicuously gland dotted. The calyces are hairy. The flowers are yellow. Dalea brachystachya is found in gravel in dry arroyos at lower elevation.
