Juncus longistylis is a perennial rush arising from a rhizome. The leaves arise mostly from the base. There are small rounded auricles at the base of the leave blades. There are 3-5 flowers per head, and 3-5 flower heads per inflorescence. The flowers themselves are brown in color with a greenish midstripe. Juncus longistylis is found in wet meadows in middle elevations.
