Mannia californica (Gottsche ex Underw.) L.C. Wheeler

Family: Aytoniaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
None

The genus Mannia is recognized by its small but thick thallus, scales with two triangular appendages, pustule like antheridia on the upper surface of the thallus, and round receptacles fringed by purple scales at the base. When dry, the thalli roll up into tight, black tubes. John Brinda has been kind enough to confirm the identity of this specimen as M. californica.
