The Gila Native Plant Society Presents

the

2010 Spring Plant Sale

This year the Gila Native Plant Society has put together a spectacular list of plants for your garden. The offerings include everything from wildflowers and grasses to trees. These plants have been selected for beauty in your garden and hardiness in the New Mexico climate. If you take a walk through your own neighborhood or within a few miles of your home you will see many of these same plants in bloom in the spring and summer. You can also visit the Silva Creek Botanical Garden on Virginia Street in Silver City to see some of these plants.

When you think about plants for your garden, you should consider factors such as whether you will be planting in a northern or southern exposure, amount of shading, and type of soil in your area. Some plants, such as Elderberry and Sacred Datura, can be poisonous and should only be planted with caution if there are young children in your family.

Many of our members specialize in gardening and can assist you as you plan this year's garden. Please don't hesitate to ask questions about the suitability of your choices for your own garden.

The pre-sale for plants this year will be on the third floor of the Student Union at Western New Mexico University and will be held on March 13, 2010 from 8:30AM until noon. At the pre-sale you can view a slide show with photos of these plants and talk to experts. Here is the list of books that will be on sale. You put in your order and pay a deposit at the pre-sale. Then on April 24, 2010, you will pick up your plants at Penny Park (time to be announced.) If you are unable to come to the pre-sale, you can make a list of the plants you want. Add up the cost and write a check for half that amount to GNPS and send it to:
GNPS
P.O. Box 457
Silver City, NM 88062
If you are going to send in your pre-sale order, we need to receive your list & check by MARCH 13, 2010.
