Scirpus pungens Vahl
Schoenoplectus pungens is a perennial from a rhizome, and like all Schoenoplectus members has a lateral inflorescence (terminal in Scirpus.) The culms are three angled and erect. Schoenoplectus pungens usually has only 1-4 spikelets in a cluster, while S. americanus which does look similar usually has many spikelets to a cluster.
