Xanthium spinosum Linnaeus
(Spiny Cocklebur)

Status: Exotic

Synonyms:
Acanthoxanthium spinosum (Linnaeus) Fourr.

Xanthium spinosum, like Xanthium strumarium, has spiny fruits that stick tenaciously to clothing and fur. Xanthium spinosum has thinner fruits with fewer spines. The foliage of Xanthium spinosum is deep green with with venation, while the foliage on Xanthium strumarium is light green and broader.
