Foundation Scholarship application opens Nov. 15

WNMU and high school seniors can apply for private scholarships offered through the University Foundation beginning Tuesday, November 15. The scholarships will be awarded after March 1 for the upcoming academic year. Scholarships are offered for students in different academic programs as well as to students that are children of alumni, or whose hometowns are from specific states. Students Experience HACU Conference

Two students recently experienced the premier conference of HACU, Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities. Dayana Baez and Hilda Moran attended the annual conference; this year held in Miami, with a contingency of faculty and staff from WNMU. For Moran, a WNMU-Deming student, the conference was eye opening. "It was an amazing experience because I was learning about opportunities from so many others," said Moran who is a graduate student in the Master's of Social Work program. "Coming from a small community, it opened up my eyes to the possibilities." Moran is originally from Chihuahua, having arrived in Deming nine years ago. She earned her undergraduate degree from New Mexico State University. "It took me five years to earn my bachelor degree because of the language barrier," said Moran. Early Childhood Programs Offers Free Pre-K Services

The Early Childhood Program department is offering free pre-k services for the new academic year beginning in August. Children who will turn four prior to August 31, 2015 qualify. The services are for full-time hours from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Wrap around childcare is available from 7:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for $250 per semester. As providers of New Mexico Pre-K Services, WNMU offers an award winning, state licensed program with a 5-Star rating. The curriculum is play based and is designed to provide foundational skills necessary for school readiness. The services will be guided by qualified, experienced staff of the nationally accredited Child Development Center on the WNMU campus. Call For Entries: Juried Student Art Exhibit

The Department of Expressive Arts is calling on WNMU students to enter artwork into this year's Juried Student Art Exhibition. February 18 is the only day which artwork can be entered.  Participation Eligibility: - Open to all WNMU students enrolled for Summer, Fall 2014 and Spring 2015. Must be registered Spring 2015. - Artworks must be original. - Work previously exhibited in the McCray Gallery does not qualify. - All submitted works must be ready for display: matted and framed, mounted and hanging directions if applicable. Small works that require security must be in its own case arranged for exhibition. All works must fit through the 6' x 6' gallery door and not exceed 150 lbs.
