Hope Exhibit

Nearly one dozen Western New Mexico University students will have work in the Hope exhibition, sponsored by the First United Methodist Church and juried by local painter Gay Marks and WNMU alumnus and sculptor Maurice Camacho. Intended to reflect a hopeful expression of spirituality, this exhibit was inspired by the church’s Reverend Jared Secret’s observation of Renaissance art at The Getty Center in Los Angeles. According to the prospectus, “The subjects of Renaissance art grew from mostly biblical scenes ultimately to events of contemporary life. Today, spirituality is considered to be the recognition of a sense that there is something greater than oneself. The premise of the show is to challenge the artist to express a hopeful perspective that results from a connection with your ‘something greater.’” Centered around a diverse notion of hope through spirituality, the Hope exhibition will take place on Wednesday, January 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Fellowship...

Stowe grew up in the southwest border region, living and working in New Mexico, Texas and Mexico. She credits these experiences for providing a heightened awareness of geographical and political boundaries; and a fascination with the exploration of identity of self and the construction of home in her work.
