WNMU/Silver City Artist in Residence João Galera will present the culmination of his yearlong endeavor.

São Paulo, Brazil, native João Galera’s exhibition was to open in May at the WNMU McCray Gallery. In lieu of that, please join us on the WNMU Cultural Affairs Facebook page anytime on May 7 for a virtual exhibit opening and lecture by the artist.

During his year of residency (2019-2020), the artist João Galera researched and produced work about Memory and Desire, using the poem The Waste Land by T.S. Eliot, and the book Os Sertões by Euclydes da Cunha as a basis for his project. With all this in mind, João explores through his art the memory of the land and the people of Grant County. He has also worked with different groups of people in the county to create a Community Art Installation, parts of which can also be viewed on his website.
