Brought to you by WNMU Early Childhood Programs and the WNMU Early Childhood Family Counseling Center, the 19th Annual Family Counseling Center’s Conference is themed Common Ground: Universal Tenets of Play Therapy. The conference will take place over Zoom.
Right now there are currently five play therapy practices listed on the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) evidence-based practice list. These approaches have distinct qualities and can appear different. However, play therapists can benefit from seeing the common therapeutic factors present in all of these practices. By being able to identify these universal tenets, play therapists can keep themselves grounded while working with complex cases. Returning to these tenets can aid in therapist self-care. Play therapists will also feel confident supporting parents and teachers by giving them ways of introducing these important tenets into the home and classroom environments.
Presenters Brooke E. Harris, LPC, RPT-S, and Elizabeth Konrath, LPC, RPT-S, are Circle of Security Parenting Facilitators, and they both serve on the Colorado Association for Play Therapy board of directors.
