Mimbres Press of Western New Mexico University will launch “Our Search for Meaning: A Humanistic Anthology” on Friday, February 25, 6-7 p.m. at WNMU J. Cloyd Miller Library. This book, which is used in Applied Liberal Arts and Sciences (ALAS) courses, examines the intellectual history of western civilization within the context of four questions: What is truth? What is justice? What does it mean to be human? What is the good life? The book consists of excerpts from classic works ranging from “The Epic of Gilgamesh” to George Orwell’s “1984,” alongside short essays contextualizing these works and didactic material designed to get students discussing the four questions.

The book is co-authored by Drs. Katherine Oubre and Phillip Schoenberg, with an introduction by WNMU Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Jack Crocker. Dr. Oubre is the Chair of the WNMU Humanities Department, while Dr. Schoenberg is Assistant Professor of Philosophy and English.

At the launch, the authors will introduce the book, and WNMU students from an Applied Liberal Arts and Sciences class will read and perform excerpts from classic works. The launch, which is free and open to the public, will be followed by complimentary food and drink.

For those who wish to join virtually, the event will be broadcast over Zoom (https://wnmu.zoom.us/j/82175664398).
