Western New Mexico University will host a panel discussion Sunday to celebrate the discovery one year ago of the painting “Woman – Ochre” by artist Willem de Kooning.

The famous painting had been missing for 30 years when it was discovered by business owners David Van Auker, Buck Burns and Rick Johnson, and eventually returned to the University of Arizona Museum of Art.

The panel will review the painting’s history and importance, recount the return adventure, and share future plans. Along with the three business owners, it will include staff members from the University of Arizona Museum of Art.

The event will be 11 a.m. Sunday at the WNMU Besse Forward Global Resource Center Auditorium, 1000 W. College Ave., at the corner of 12th and Kentucky streets on campus. There is no cost to attend.
