WNMU Ceramic Artists In Residence 2019-20 Natalie Rae Good and Atziry Apodaca exhibit their work at McCray Gallery.

Atziry A. Apodaca was born in El Paso, Texas in 1993. She was raised in Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico were she went to school up until third grade before being transferred to a public school in El Paso, Tx. Her mom, her younger brother, and she then began the back and forth journey of crossing the border every morning for the next 3 years until her father had his green card reinstated. Apodaca began her journey as a sculptor studying under Michael Metcalf for 4 years. Apodaca majored with a BFA in Sculpture in 2017 from WNMU.

After taking a year of leave she returned to WNMU in 2018, this time as an Artist in Residence in Ceramics working under the current Ceramics Instructor, Courtney Michaud. Apodaca is currently one of the Artist in Residence Recipients for the second year in a row and has participated as a work-study intern at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. She currently lives in Silver City, NM.
