Abietinella abietina (Hedwig) Fleischer
Family: Thuidiaceae
Status: Native
Synonyms:
Thuidium abietinum (Hedwig) Schimper
Abietinella abietina is a large pleurocarp with dimorphic leaves. The stem leaves are larger and more abruptly narrowed than the branch leaves. Both stem and branch leaves have upper leaf cells with a single large papilla. The upper leaf margin looks somewhat serrate due to the upward pointing papillae. The paraphyllia are so numerous that they are visible between the stem leaves using a hand lens. Abietinella abietina was photographed near Sipapu ski area on a north facing slope on soil.
