Adiantum capillus-veneris Linnaeus
(Southern Maiden Hair)

Family: Pteridaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
None

Adiantum capillus-veneris is much more common in its overall regional distribution than is apparent by its lack of abundance in the Gila National Forest. It prefers cliffs and rocks around flowing water. It is delicate in appearance and easily mistaken from a distance for Aquilegia species together with which it is found. It is however easily distinguished by its dark stipes and the remarkable false indusia formed by a folding back of the marginal leaf lobes.
