Aloina rigida is a rather small moss found at higher elevations growing on soil in mixed conifer forest.
The leaves are sheathing at the base. The spreading portion of the leaf is covered in filaments,
each of which is capped by an ovoid beaked cell. The edges of the lamina are inrolled over the filaments. The
basal portion of the lamina has a hyaline border of elongate hyaline cells.
The peristome of the cylindrical capsule is strongly twisted.
