Amphidium lapponicum (Hedw.) Schimp.

Family: Amphidiaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
Anictangium lapponicum Hedw.
Bryum lapponicum (Hedw.) Dicks.
Didymodon turgescens Stirt.
Zygodon sublapponicus Müll. Hal.

Amphidium lapponicum is crisped/contorted when dry and long lanceolate. Most remarkable are the abundant papillae on the laminal cells that are described as large and warty (FNA vol. 28, pg. 39). Another useful trait is the absence of a peristome.

Many thanks to the University of Colorado Herbarium (COLO), Erin Tripp, & Dina Clark for permitting us to photograph this specimen!
