Bartramia microstoma of New Mexico reports
Bartramia brevifolia is not common in New Mexico. It is best recognized by the long, intact & narrow but toothed leaf tip, sheathing base, and prominent costa on cross section. B. brevifolia is most easily differentiated from B. ithyphylla by the appearance of the costa on cross section. In B. brevifolia , the costa is readily apparent and bulges down from the lamina. The costa of B. ithyphylla is much flatter in cross section and does not bulge downward. The capsule of B. brevifolia is also substantially longer than that of B. ithyphylla and is useful when present.
Many thanks to the New York Botanical Garden and Laura Briscoe for loaning us this specimen (NYBG barcode #00646911) for
