Berlandiera lyrata Bentham
(Chocolate Flower, Green eyes)
Family: Asteraceae
Status: Native
Synonyms:
Berlandiera incisa Torrey & Gray
Berlandiera lyrata can be found in city sidewalks or rocky lower elevation hillsides. The
green disc, marked with brown, with yellow rays is very distinctive. The leaves are light gray, oblanceolate,
and toothed or lobed. The ray flowers are attached at the base to the phyllary below it and flattened parts
of the two adjacent sterile flowers, giving the appearance of a flattened achene with a central ridge.
