Bothriochloa barbinodis is one of several grasses with spikelets in twos-- one
is sessile and the other is pedicelled. In this species, the pedicelled spikelet is much less
well developed and shorter than the sessile one. The Latin name refers to the beard of short
hairs surrounding each node on the culms.
