Brachythecium velutinum (Hedwig) Bruch & Schimper
Brachytheciastrum velutinum is a dark green, thin and wispy moss (in the words of Kelly Allred) found under overhangs and rocks at middle elevations in the Gila. The stem leaves are spreading and not at all julaceous. The leaves are relatively distant along the stem, reminiscent of an Amblystegium. The leaves are long acuminate and serrate along most of the margin. They are not obviously plicate. The capsules are asymmetric.
