Braunia andrieuxii Lorentz

Family: Hedwigiaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
None

Braunia andrieuxii has multipapillose subquadrate cells at the tip and mid-lamina, while the center of the base is composed of elongate smooth cells. The alar cells are subquadrate. There is no costa. The apex is not hyaline as it is in Hedwigia. Braunia andrieuxii is found at middle elevation in mixed conifer forest on north facing rocky slopes. B. andrieuxii and B. secunda are both found in the American southwest and can be found in similar locations. B. andrieuxii has a shorter and broader apex, the leaves appear less long acuminate, and the leaf margins are only recurved proximally. Both species can have reduced branches called "stoloniform" or "flagelliform" branches.
