Bromus madritensis is an annual that forms dense panicles on fairly short culms. The first glume is
one nerved, and the awns are 1-6cm long. The panicles have a reddish or purplish hue when mature, hence the name "rubens." This exotic grass prefers dry, disturbed areas.
