Carex rossii is a cespitose sedge with triangular culms. The leaves are clustered near the base. There are floral bracts which
are longer than the inflorescence. The staminate spikes are terminal and the pistillate spikes are lateral, relatively few and below.
The perigynia are finely puberulent and with few visible nerves. Carex rossii is found in coniferous forests at upper elevation.
