Chionoloma tenuirostre when dry has long, narrow, contorted leaves that have an acute apex. The leaf margins are plane. The cells of the lamina are multipapillose except at the base where the brownish rectangular cells are smooth and at the apex where the cells of the mucro are also lack papillae. The stem has a central strand and the leaves have a weak adaxial stereid band and a strong abaxial stereid band. The leaves are undulate (wavy) and somewhat fragile. Chionoloma tenuirostre lacks the obvious "V" at the base seen in mosses in the genus Tortella. Chionoloma tenuirostre is found on rocks in mixed conifer forest at upper elevation in the Gila.
