Coreopsis lanceolata is a showy herb with orange-yellow disc and ray flowers. The phyllaries are in two distinct series. The leaves are simple or with short basal lateral lobes on some leaves and are mostly proximal on the plant. The 3-4mm cypselae are winged and have pappi of 2 inconspicuous short scales. Coreopsis lanceolata is found in town in sidewalks and disturbed ground.
