Dieteria canescens (Pursh) Nuttall
(Purple Aster, Sand Daisy)
Family: Asteraceae
Status: Native
Synonyms:
Machaeranthera canescens (Pursh) Gray
Dieteria canescens has slender purple rays and a yellow disc, like Dieteria bigelovii. D. canescens has more rays than D. bigelovii,
and D. canescens is a lower elevation species. D. canescens has pubescent phyllaries and peduncles but these hairs are not
conspicuously gland tipped (although some gland tipped hairs may be present). The bases of the phyllaries are sparsely pubescent in
comparison to the herbaceous tips.
