Vascular Plants of the Gila Wilderness

Presented in Association with the
Western New Mexico University Department of Natural Sciences

Dipsacus fullonum Linnaeus
(Teasel)

Family: Caprifoliaceae

Status: Exotic

Synonyms:
None

Dipsacus fullonum is an exotic biennial that is considered invasive and is actively removed for conservation purposes when found. In New Mexico, it had only been collected east of the Rio Grande until being found recently in the Mimbres Valley. It is a large 1-2 meter tall plant with prickly stems and leaves, and rather pretty large pink or purple ovoid inflorescences. If I can find one in flower in the Gila before it is removed, I will add a pic of a viable plant.
