Echinopepon coulteri is a viney herb with long tendrils. The white flowers occur in racemes. The spiny capsules are 2-3cm long. The leaves are cordate and deeply lobed. Echinopepon coulteri is found climbing over trees and shrubs in the Pinon-Juniper Woodland and lower Ponderosa Pine areas of middle elevation.
