Encalypta ciliata Hedwig

Encalypta ciliata Hedw. var. microstoma Schimp.
Encalypta ciliata is easily recognized when fruiting. The calyptra has the typical half inflated sausage balloon appearance, but in this case also has a fringe of small triangular, yellow appendages on the proximal edge. The leaves are broad, ovate or oblanceolate and apiculate. The leaf cells are quadrate to rectangular with up to 6 "C" shaped very obvious papillae per cell. Encalypta ciliata grows on partly shaded or north facing rocky ledges.
