Entodon schleicheri (Schimper) Demeter
Family: Entodontaceae
Status: Native
Synonyms:
Isothecium schleicheri Schimper
Entodon schleicheri, like the other Entodons of New Mexico, is a large pleurocarpous moss with deeply concave leaves. The color of E. schleicheri seems to be lighter green, missing the deeper bronze color of E. beyrichii. The leaf arrangement on the E. schleicheri stem is said to be at least somewhat complanate, although this may be absent. The leaves are supposed to be more gradually acuminate than those of E. beyrichii, although the leaf shape is so variable that it is difficult to discern. The best diagnostic features appear to be the cross-striolate proximal exostome teeth (papillose on E. beyrichii) and the absence of a differentiated annulus. Kelly Allred collected this specimen at about 7000 feet elevation in mixed conifer forest.
