Entosthodon apiculatopilosus (Cardot) Fife

Family: Funariaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
Funaria apiculatopilosa Cardot
Funaria orcuttii E.B. Bartram

Entosthodon apiculatopilosus has an unusual peristome with stubby, truncate exostome teeth that look like they have all broken off. The endostome segments are about four times as long as the exostome teeth. The leaves have a very long excurrent costa that is reddish brown at the base and hyaline at the tip. The hygroscopic seta is 3-6mm long.

Many thanks to the University of Colorado Herbarium, Erin Tripp & Dina Clark for loaning us this specimen and for permitting us to photograph it.
