Entosthodon muehlenbergii (Turner) Fife

Family: Funariaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
Funaria muehlenbergii Turner

Entosthodon muehlenbergii looks like a very small Funaria. By virtue of its weak single peristome, it has been placed in the genus Entosthodon. The capsule is inclined and the neck is long relative to the urn. The capsule lacks the obvious annulus of Funaria hygrometrica. The leaves are notable for being long acuminate with a concolorous (not hyaline) apex. Except for not being hyaline, this would be considered a hairpoint. We found Entosthodon muehlenbergii in a limestone crevice at lower elevation.
