Erysimum capitatum is an erect herb seen frequently (early in the season) with just one tall stem holding a single cluster of flowers aloft. The flowers are bright yellow to orange. The leaves are linear. The
siliques are erect or ascending and truncate at the free end. There is a noticeable gradation in flower color from the more yellow to orange as one ascends in altitude. The fruit is a square silique with a single row of bright orange seeds in each chamber. The seeds have an inconspicuous wing.
