Evolvulus nuttallianus is a spreading herb with leaves that are appressed to the stem or ascending. The leaves are pubescent on both surfaces. The leaves of E. nuttallianus are flat while those of E. sericeus are strongly folded along the midvein. Evolvulus nuttallianus is found in lower elevation arroyos and creekbeds. It differs from Evolvulus sericeus var. sericeus in which the leaves are spreading and usually glabrous above. Although Evolvulus sericeus var. sericeus can have either purple or white colored flowers, the flowers of Evolvulus nuttallianus are always lavender.
