Fissidens bryoides is very similar to F. crispus-- the main difference being that F. bryoides is unchanged when dry compared to its appearance wet, while F. crispus leaves become wrinkled and twisted when dry. Also, F. bryoides is found in wet habitats while F. crispus is found in dry habitats. Both of these species have the usual pocket, and have a strong border on all laminae as well as an acute apex. Sterile and fertile stems are alike-- monomorphic.
