Funaria flavicans Michx.
Family: Funariaceae
Status: Native
Synonyms:
Funaria flavicans var. humilis Müll. Hal.
Funaria flavicans is most definitively identified by its endostome segments-- about 1/4 the
length of the peristome teeth and which are rounded-bilobed at the apex. Otherwise, it is quite similar
to F. hygrometrica with slight differences in the capsule. The seta of F. hygrometrica
is more hygroscopic-- which means that it twists more with moisture. The leaves rehydrate poorly in the
lab.
Many thanks to the University of Colorado Herbarium (COLO), Erin Tripp & Dina Clark for loaning us this
specimen and permitting us to photograph it.
