Grimmia texicana Greven

Family: Grimmiaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
None

Grimmia texicana was recently reported as a new species by Henk Greven in 2010. The leaves have a prominent ovate base and plane margins. The basal juxtacostal cells are rectangular. The distal lamina is 2-stratose. The manner in which the 2-stratose portion of the leaf interdigitates in strands into the hyaline base is rather distinctive.

Many thanks to the New York Botanical Garden & Laura Briscoe for loaning us this specimen for photography (and to Dale Kruse of TAES for mailing it to us from Texas A&M).
